Whitley Bay is steeped in history. It started as a sleepy village and progressed to a popular seaside resort, which at its peak saw train loads of people flocking to the town for their holidays.

But time waits for no man, nor town, and toward the end of the last century, Whitley Bay sadly became known more for the buildings it was losing to mass demolition schemes than the wonderful seaside place it used to be.

In his second book on the town, local journalist, editor and author John Alexander shows Whitley Bay from its early days, right to the present. You will be amazed at what we have lost over the years to so-called modernisation.

You will be amazed at what we have lost over the years to so-called modernisation.
